UI Design

Spencer Wohlers

I care very much about information accessibility and appearance, and I strive to make my own creations as easily navigable and usable as possible. Here's some of that work.

Windows Live Messenger Contact Card

I'm a Microsoft beta tester, and one of the products that I have tested was Windows Live Messenger 8.0. I didn't like the style of the contact card in early betas, so I decided to make my own. It was not adopted, but I'm proud of my work and I love to help contribute where my help is needed.

Messenger Gadget

As a personal favor for one of my friends that I've met in relation to Microsoft beta testing, I helped him brainstorm the design of a Windows Messenger gadget. The problem with designing such a gadget is the fact that, on the Windows Vista sidebar, gadgets are non-resizable and people's contact lists are not only very long but quite variable, depending on which contacts are online. I suggested a gadget design that allowed for dynamic changes in contact status as well as large contact list length. The dotted icons used are from FamFamFam.com.

Timerize

Why stop at computers? One of my more intriguing ventures into UI design comes in the form of my time-keeping program for a certain series of graphing calculators, Timerize. I redesigned the user interface to match up with buttons on the calculator, but made it intuitive enough that users could easily use the program without instructions.
