For the few of you that have been *select* testers (aka people that are on my contact list that I've been bugging about this design... sorry if you fit in this category), you have probably seen this, but for the rest of you, I'd like to present the immediate availability of GWOC's close-to-final design with sample content.
Unfortunately for now, it's only some sample HTMLs that fit in with the design, but because I like enumerating features, here's an enumerated list of site features already implemented:
- Finished off most of the design. How do you like it? Should I add an image gallery to my reviews, or should I leave the screenshots as-is?
- Fixed the google search code. Also, for those of you on browsers that are evil and won't let web designers style input fields (read: Safari), the search field is replaced by a proprietary search technology built into Mac OS X. Sorry, but because of limitations of the rendering platform in Webkit for Windows and limitations in pre-10.4 versions of Safari prevent me from enabling this feature on your systems.
- Live it up: I haven't added Google ads yet.
- I've installed Movable Type, but I'm still working on getting my design working with it. Suggestions? Joomla? Too slow. Wordpress? Doesn't handle all my types of data. But should I combine them all and have the tabs be like category filters? Hrm.
- Minor refinements to stuff I didn't finish in the old design (that you're looking at to read this blog entry).
- Full XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS validity (I tried Strict but it breaks the design).
- Added two-column layout based on floats, margins, and background colors. If it breaks in your browser, please tell me.
Thanks for being my private beta testers.
