Welcome to Geek Without a Cause!

Welcome to my new website, gwoc. I've done a graphical, content, and backend overhaul on my personal website and the pages here are still a work in progress and reflect the general trend of design I wish to follow in a new site.

What is Geek Without a Cause? It's my foray into the digital world, entailing software product reviews, a technology-oriented weblog, and a portfolio of my design and coding work. You will be able to navigate to all mentioned sections in the above navigation menu as well as visit my personal section.

Because this is still in concept phase, a lot of this site (mostly backend templates and content for now) is under construction and is able not only to break any time but to also change at any time. As of writing, I have begun work on a master set of template designs and am putting the finishing touches on miscellaneous widgets. In fact, here is the development outline for GWOC:

  1. Create design mockups.
  2. Create images and HTML framework for design.
  3. Create attractive CSS styling to accompany images and design.
  4. Create sample HTML files with content to test design.
  5. Refine unfinished features of previous i6 design (search support in Safari, software reviews template, etc.)
  6. Propogate site-wide refined features to sample HTML files.
  7. Install database-driven backend capable of managing entire site.
  8. Figure out how to work backend.
  9. Add some initial content to backend.
  10. Create template for backend similar to sample HTML files.
  11. Finish the template design to the best of my ability.
  12. Test all features of site, refine to look professional.
  13. Finish adding content to site. Create more software reviews, add techblog posts, and add personal content. Refine portfolio section.
  14. Add Google ads.
  15. Go live. Advertise content.

Well, I think that's it for now. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to drop me a line on this page. I've spent a while refining the design to be visually attractive, and constructive criticism is always helpful. Thank you.

Your friendly web designer,

- Spencer

GWOC Project Update

For the few of you that have been *select* testers (aka people that are on my contact list that I've been bugging about this design... sorry if you fit in this category), you have probably seen this, but for the rest of you, I'd like to present the immediate availability of GWOC's close-to-final design with sample content.
